Invest Like The One Percent With These Three ETFs – Zacks.com
With income inequality issues and economic protests dominating the headlines as of late, the so-called ‘one percent’ have been in focus. These wealthy individuals—in case you have been living under a rock the past few months—consist of the richest 1% of the populace in the country and control a disproportionate amount of the nation’s wealth.
In fact, some reports suggest that this small group of people possesses more than 40% of all financial assets in the country including half of all stocks, bonds, and funds. Furthermore, they only have just 5% of the debt and are taking home more of the national pay than any time in the past 90 years.
Yet despite these trends and the growing backlash against these ultra-wealthy, little seems likely to be done in order to change the status quo. The major political parties seem unwilling and unable to compromise on any economic issues, especially in an election year, so it looks as though these trends will continue at least into the foreseeable future (see more in the Zacks ETF Center).
While this certainly isn’t good news for those in any of the protest ‘movements’ across the country, there are definitely ways for investors to play the scenario. After all, many of the techniques and strategies being used by the 1% are well known and easy to employ in a personal portfolio and could be great choices for investors seeking to make a similar play with their assets.
This is especially true given the vast proliferation of ETFs over the past few years and all the strategies that these products have opened up to regular investors. Now, mom and pop investors can use many of the techniques that were once reserved for the ultra rich of the country that have millions in liquid assets (One Percenters should also read the Complete Guide to Preferred Stock ETF Investing).
Below, we have highlighted three ETFs in order to help people invest like the one percent. These products look to target many of the methods that ultra-high net worth investors have been using for years in their own portfolios, but in a way that is accessible and cheap to buy for the ’99%’ of investors out there.
iShares S&P National Municipal Bond Fund (MUB)
Municipal bonds are securities that are issued by local and state governments in order to build or finance any number of projects ranging from infrastructure improvements to general budget uses as well. Often times, in order to encourage investment, these securities are exempt from federal income tax and are often free from inclusion in AMT calculations as well.
Since regular taxable bonds are taxed at 35% for the top bracket, this can be a huge selling point for rich investors who are seeking to keep their tax liabilities low while still participating in the fixed income world. Luckily for investors looking to apply this strategy with funds, there are a number of muni bond ETFs available.
One of the most popular is iShares’ MUB, a $3 billion dollar fund that has over 2,000 securities in its basket and has an investment grade debt focus. Additionally, the product charges a modest 25 basis points a year in fees while tilting exposure to bonds from California, New York, and Texas (see The Forgotten Municipal Bond ETFs).
In terms of yield, the fund pays out a taxable equivalent yield of about 3% in 30 Day SEC Yield terms while possessing a modest effective duration. While the yield may not sound that impressive, investors should consider that comparable Treasury bond ETFs pay out just 1.5% in comparison, and that is without the tax benefit.
Clearly, for those in the top tax brackets, muni bond funds can provide a decent low risk yield that is far in excess of Treasury bills. With these benefits, investors who are looking to a make a bond investment like the 1% could be well served by looking at the muni space.
Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (SDY)
For high income individuals who find themselves in the top income brackets, dividend investing is another popular avenue. That is because dividends are currently taxed at a favorable rate of 15% for high income earners, far less than other types of income.
Thanks to this, it can be beneficial to steer assets towards dividend paying stocks, keep the investment in there for the long haul, and live off the dividend income taxed at the favorable rate. Luckily for investors looking to do this in ETF form, there are a number of quality choices (see 11 Great Dividend ETFs).
One of the more popular is SDY, a fund that tracks the S&P High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index. This benchmark measures the performance of the 60 highest dividend yielding S&P Composite 15000 constituents that have consistently increased dividends every year for at least the past quarter century.
In a way, this fund represents the ‘one percent’ of dividend stocks, focusing on the top securities in the space that have been among the most consistent dividend growers. Furthermore, the very name of the benchmark—with the focus on ‘Aristocrats’—screams ‘1%’ to many.
In terms of its portfolio, consumer, financials, and industrials comprise the top three sectors, while energy, technology, and telecom are the bottom three. While the yield isn’t enormous, only 3.2% at this point, it is likely to give investors a stable yield at a relatively cheap cost (0.35%), making it an interesting pick for investors looking to mimic the strategies of those in the top income brackets.
iShares FTSE NAREIT Mortgage REIT ETF (REM)
In another strong dividend play, investors can consider REM. Not only is its payout impressive, but the fund focuses on real estate, a hallmark of one percenter investing. While it is true that regular investors can miss out on certain tax benefits that can come with outright real estate purchases, there are also a number of headaches—tenants, repairs, etc.—that can be avoided with an ETF/REIT approach.
Furthermore, REM’s dividend will be extremely tough to beat as the product currently has a 30 Day SEC Yield of 13.4%. While the fees are a little high at 48 basis points, this still means that after fees, the payout on the product will be approaching 13% a year.
Add in the tax benefits that are afforded to dividend income, and investors could have a solid choice on their hands with this 28 security fund. Furthermore, the product has a very reasonable PE ratio—below 14.25—while the beta is less than 0.7 (read Top Three High Yield Real Estate ETFs).
This suggests that the product will be relatively stable, allowing investors to sit back and watch the dividends roll in, just like the real members of the one percent!

Queenbee's Inside the Hive: Stock Investing For Dummies
Ten Important Points about Stock Investing
If you’re committed to investing in stocks, keep these points in mind as you make your choices and reap your rewards. After all, stock investing is fun and frightening, sane and crazy-making, complicated and simple — and you may need reminders to stay focused.
You’re not buying a stock; you’re buying a company.
The primary reason you invest in a stock is because the company is making a profit.
If you buy a stock when the company isn’t making a profit, you’re not investing — you’re speculating.
A stock (or stocks in general) should never be 100 percent of your assets.
In some cases (such as a severe bear market), stocks aren’t a good investment at all.
A stock’s price is dependent on the company, which in turn is dependent on its environment, which includes its customer base, its industry, the general economy, and the political climate.
Your common sense and logic can be just as important in choosing a good stock as the advice of any investment expert.
Always have well-reasoned answers to questions such as “Why are you investing in stocks?” and “Why are you investing in a particular stock?”
If you have no idea about the prospects of a company (and sometimes even if you think you do), always use stop-loss orders.
Even if your philosophy is to buy and hold for the long term, continue to monitor your stocks and consider selling them if they’re not appreciating or if general economic conditions have changed.
Important Numbers to Review before Investing in Stock
As you invest in stocks, you naturally do a little research on the companies you’re thinking of investing in. The following list explains the key components to pay attention to when you look at a company’s main financial statements (the income statement and the balance sheet):
Earnings: This number should be at least 10 percent higher than the year before.
Sales: This number should be higher than the year before.
Debt: This number should be lower than or about the same as the year before. It should also be lower than the company’s assets.
Equity: This number should be higher than the year before.
Financial Measures to Consider before Investing in Stock
You’re thinking of buying stock in a company, but before you invest your hard-earned money in hopes of a profitable return, check out some financial ratios that can help indicate whether the company is on sound financial footing. Here are key measures to consider:
Price-to-earnings ratio (P/E): For large cap stocks, the ratio should be under 20. For all stocks (including growth, small cap, and speculative issues), it shouldn’t exceed 40.
Price to sales ratio (PSR): The PSR should be as close to 1 as possible.
Return on equity (ROE): ROE should be going up by at least 10 percent per year.
Earnings growth: Earnings should be at least 10 percent higher than the year before. This rate should be maintained over several years.
Debt to asset ratio: Debt should be half of assets or less.
What to Read before Investing in Stock
Before you invest in a company by buying stock in it, you need to do a little light — or not-so-light — reading. Investing in stock without checking out the company beforehand is a recipe for disaster. So, before you plunk down your money, be sure to do the following reading:
The company’s annual report
The 10K and 10Q reports that the company files with the SEC
Standard & Poor’s Stock Reports
Value Line Investment Survey
The Wall Street Journal and/or Investor’s Business Daily
Reputable stock investing Web sites
Internet Resources for Stock Investing
With the tools available on the Internet, you have no excuse for not researching any and every potential stock investment. The following list of resources links you to some of the best financial Web sites around. Look at what they have to say about a company or an investment before you take the plunge.

Your Questions About How To Investigate Com Reviews

John asks…
Is this the next big conspiracy?
Back in 1995 the FDA approved Lasiki eye surgery as a safe procedure. Now the former FDA chief who was involved in the approval of Lasik being performed is trying to withdrawal it and for good reason. While there have been many cases where Lasik has been successful, the tragedies are hidden from public. There are a lot of people that have dry eyes, poor night vision, and even end up permanently blind. The sad thing is that some of the tragedies are caused by the best surgeons. The link below will take you to a website which is a petition from Morris Waxler to stop Lasik from being performed until all the complications are reviewed. It will investigate all the doctors who have failures and are not being truthful with their patients about being a good candidate for the surgery and only in it for the money. The success rate is actually lower in this surgery than you may think. The big conspiracy here is that the FDA is probably bought by the Lasik industry so the petition to withdrawal lasik will be turned down. Sad how they will only state the success and not the failures and will show the world that they care more about profit than the safety of the people when they turn down the petition. If your interested in signing the petition click the link below.

Chris asks…
Are Americans applying pressure Workers at Oregons Driver and Motor Vehicle Services have turned in nearly 200
Workers at Oregon’s Driver and Motor Vehicle Services have turned in nearly 200 people to police for suspicious documentation, an effort that overwhelmingly singled out Latinos.
This summer, the DMV changed a long-standing policy: Rather than simply refuse service to customers suspected of presenting phony or altered documents to obtain licenses or identification, employees began to alert police.
From June through August, 140 people were turned in to police — roughly 94 percent of them with Latino names, according to DMV records obtained by The Oregonian. Oregon State Police and police agencies in Portland, Beaverton and Albany recieved the most referrals. Of those 61 cases, 13 people have been convicted of crimes, and a dozen others are pending prosecution, according to police agencies surveyed by the newspaper. Three others were cited but not charged with a crime.
For the remaining 33 cases, some were arrested but no charges were filed or their charges were later dismissed; some were never arrested or charged; or authorities could not find a case file for the person.
In one case, an Oregon City woman was arrested and charged with a felony only to find later that her identification was legitimate.
State officials say the new approach is a work in progress.
“We, too, are in the process of analyzing this to see what have been the results,” said Lorna Youngs, administrator of Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services.
She said the agency will evaluate the new procedure after it has been in effect for at least six months. The review will include how DMV employees followed protocol and what police agencies did with referrals. If Latinos make up the bulk of suspects, state officials will investigate further, Youngs said.
“We want to know, is this ultimately going to be a deterrent of fraud?”

So God has no problems with illegals who use document fraud to obtain a better life ? Can Americans have laws that offer the same special treatment. Do Churches condone document fraud knowing illegal aliens use fake documents to have this better life. What is the Churches stand on illegals they know who lie, cheat use fruad to have a better life? Are the illegals serving God or the Devil ?

“An American Carol” & ticket fraud?
What do you think about the movie: “An American Carol” and did you hear about the alleged ticket fraud? (read & click links below)
“An American Carol” — written by David Zucker (Airplane, Top Secret, The Naked Gun 1, 2 & 33 1/3, Rat Race and Scary Movie 3 & 4), Myrna Sokoloff and Lewis Friedman
“An American Carol” is a modern day satirical retelling of “A Christmas Carol” that feature the story of an anti-American filmmaker named Michael Malone (a Michael Moore archetype) who tries to abolish the July Fourth holiday, and is visited by the ghosts of famous Americans (George Washington, George S. Patton & John F. Kennedy) who try to get him to drop his plan and come to embrace & love his country.

Did you see it??? why or why not??? Do you feel it is a good funny movie or a bad un-funny movie???
TICKET FRAUD???:
When the conservative satire “An American Carol” failed to catch huge numbers at this weekend’s box office (it did make the top 10 though), the team behind the David Zucker-helmed parody alleges that that there has been a vast, ticket-switching conspiracy designed to deflate “An American Carol” box office grosses (and boost, perhaps, the thinly-veiled pro-immigration dogma of “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”)
FROM DAVID ZUCKER: “We have had heard from numerous people across the country that there has been some ticket fraud when buying a ticket for An American Carol this past weekend.
Please check your ticket. If you were in fact one of those people that were “mistakenly” sold a ticket for another movie please fill out the form below. Hold on to your ticket so we can have proof.
If you have noticed other irregularities with the theatres in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, incorrect showing times listed, image or focus problems, sound issues, or theaters not showing the film at all (when they in fact have the film), etc.
Please email us a picture of your ticket stub to: “fraud@americancarol.com We are still investigating all claims”.

I HAVE TO ASK:
WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO THE 1ST AMENDMENT – AKA – FREE SPEECH???
What do you think about all this? & How does it make your feel???
I think that the leftist in our society want to keep anything negative about their party out of the limelight that may affect or infulence people opinions about them and possibly might hurt Obama’s chance to become president.
But what do you really think???
Admin answers:
I believe I personally experienced some of this – odd discrepancies in movie listings – and am investigating further.
I am hoping that this is released on DVD soon, and conservatives can make their opinions known.
Conservative books sell extremely well – it’s hard to “hide” something for sale on Amazon or other web sites – and there’s a good chance the DVd will be a top seller. Then even the left-leaning media outlets would have to take notice.
PS The question, as I understood it, was very clearly not about the merits of the movie, but in ticket fraud and other alleged attempts to prevent people from seeing the film, or from accurately reporting viewership. So in addition to the quality of the film being an irrelevant diversion, one might also argue that if the film is so horrible there would be no need to “attack” it in the ways alleged.
Again, comparing DVD sales (and rental) information, if indeed accurate information is available in that context, to box office receipts may give us more information. Time will tell.

It shows live charts, has a customizable market watch list where in you can watch only the desired instruments & not all. Also, it has a Summary tab which shows the history of your account. Along with economic calendar . The best is the Click totrade wherein you can call trades by single trade. And yes, xStation by XTB India is a web-based browser, so you don’t have to download & can access from anywhere. You can check it here: www.xtb.in/xstation

Is there an expert adviser (EA) that I and my friends can install it on our metatrader software to see the trades of each others?
I want this for educational purpose.
where can I download it?
Admin answers:
I’m not familiar with an EA that would do this, but you could share the investor login for the MT4 platform with your friends. It allows another user to login and view the trading activity but not trade the account.
You could also use a site such as www.fxstat.com, www.mt4stats.com, www.myfxbook.com, or www.mt4pips.com which imports the MT4 statement up to their website which you can then share with your friends.

Chandy invites India Inc to invest in Kerala
Mumbai: In a bid to attract investments to Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Monday extended invitations to India Inc to forge deeper engagements with God’s Own Country.

“In a changing global scenario where trade and investment barriers are rapidly breaking down, the Kerala government is keenly aware of the need for pro-active policies and reforms. We want to create the right environment to facilitate the transformation of Kerala into a business hub and a preferred investment destination,” Chandy told reporters here.
Chandy said the Kerala government is creating an enabling environment that allows industries to establish and thrive in the state.
Public-Private-Partnerships, with a single-window clearance, would be the model for all mega-projects in the state, Chandy said.
He also said that an independent, high-level body has been proposed to expedite clearance and approval for projects and to settle investors’ grievances.
“The state is willing to give incentives and concessions to any project that provides long-term value for its people. We have big plans for sectors that have been our strong points, such as IT, tourism and medical tourism, food and agro-processing, ports, shipbuilding and logistics, education and infrastructure development,” Chandy said.
Asserting that Kerala’s development initiatives are consensus-based, Chandy said his government has been working to bring together all political parties to the discussion on projects that require large-scale investment.
“We intend to ensure that Kerala’s economic growth is continuous, unaffected by political and governance changes. All key decisions on mega projects are based on consensus,” he added.
Kerala Industries and IT Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty was also present on the occasion.
Chandy is scheduled to hold an interactive meet with the captains of trade and industry Tuesday as part of a string of national and international road shows the Kerala government has planned in connection with the high-voltage ‘Emerging Kerala’ Global Connect, to be held at Kochi Sep 12-14.

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)–Singapore state investment firm Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd. and Hong Kong-based private equity group RRJ Capital will jointly invest US$468 million in Houston-based liquefied natural gas firm Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG) as the firms look to increase their exposure to energy assets and emerging markets.
Cheniere Energy said Monday in a statement it plans to use proceeds of the investment to purchase US$500 million of the US$2 billion in securities to be issued by its subsidiary, Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P. (CQP), which owns key liquefaction assets and will use its capital raising to finance an expansion of these facilities.
Last month, Cheniere Energy received federal approval to build what would be the first major natural gas export facility in the lower 48 U.S. states, putting the company a step closer to shipping some of America’s newly abundant gas abroad. The project would allow Cheniere to become the only large-scale liquefied natural gas exporter in the U.S.
Cheniere still must find about $4 billion in financing to build and develop the export facility, a final step it hopes can be done within the next six months. The company on Monday announced it was working with eight banks to arrange the necessary financing. Cheniere in February secured $2 billion for the project from Blackstone Group LP (BX).
Cheniere said that Temasek and RRJ Capital are also in talks on a partnership focusing on developing LNG sales, marketing and trading relationships in Asian markets.
Greg Lanham, a managing director at Temasek, said the investment will help the group tap into opportunities in Asia which are driven by the energy demand of the growing middle income population.
According to its 2011 annual review, 3% of Temasek’s S$193 billion asset portfolio was allocated to energy and resources assets as of March 31, 2011, up from 2% a year earlier. Last month, Temasek and RRJ Capital, a US$2.3 billion established by former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. banker Richard Ong, bought shares in a US$1.35 billion share placement by Hong Kong-listed crude oil and natural gas company Kunlun Energy Co. (0135.HK), according to a person familiar with the transaction. Last week, Temasek sold shares in Chinese lenders lenders Bank of China Ltd. (3988.HK) and China Construction Bank Ltd. (0939.HK) via placements, raising a total of US$2.48 billion.
Cheniere Energy operates the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana through its 90.6%-owned Cheniere Energy Partners, as well as the Creole Trail Pipeline, which connects the Sabine Pass facility with downstream markets.
Its proposed Sabine Pass liquefaction project would convert the existing terminal at the site into a two-way facility that could liquefy and export natural gas as well as import and regasify foreign-sourced LNG.

What to Invest In Today « All Things Financial Planning Blog
I meet with individuals on a daily basis that have different perceptions of the world, and how they should react with their portfolio:
- I’m worried about what’s going on in the world, I want to sell out of international stocks.
- International stocks have been down more than domestic, I feel like it’s a great time to buy.
Both clients have valid reasons to think what they do. So, who is right and who is wrong?
I don’t know enough about the market to tell them what will happen with stocks over the next week, month, or year. I do know however that the above messages include underlying perceptions of investing that are rarely productive, and never consider an individuals goals.
In a recent TED talk titled Perspective is Everything (warning: an instance of foul language is used), advertising guru Rory Sutherland discussed this idea of perception, and specifically how economists (and likely the ones my above clients take their cues from) have the wrong perception of how to assist people in making the best decisions. He points to an often ignored school of economic thought (economics of the Austrian school) that instead of studying mathematical models, places its focus on psychology to determine why people act in order to find solutions to economic problems.
Most investors have bought into an investing paradigm that involves beating something or someone (neighbors, family, etc.), or maximizing yield. It makes sense why so many people equate this idea to investing since this is the exact paradigm they hear from so called ‘experts’ of investment management – “I best the markets.” The piece of their reasoning that doesn’t always translate is that they need to beat the markets to justify their jobs; that doesn’t mean what they offer is what you need.
As an advisor I rarely talk to clients about performance or winning investing as if it is a game. While it may be in an investment managers interests to take gambles with your money, it is not in yours.
Rather, I encourage investors to focus on the reasons for investing, and pick the best investments that meet those objectives, rather than starting with the objective of ‘winning.’ I use the acronym GPS to describe the starting point investors should have to qualify an investments usefulness.
Growth. All investors seek growth, and historically growth is best achieved by participating in the profits earned by successful businesses.
But, while most stock mutual funds fail to beat the markets, most investors with a ‘win at all costs’ mentality get burned, or waste countless hours jumping from one hot fund to the next in search of an extra percent return. The activity of buying into one hot fund at a high, and moving out of it after it falls on tough times often leads to a significantly lower portfolio returns than what would have been achieved by staying put.
Stability. Investors also want safety, but the question they rarely ask is – “How safe is this investment?” I hear far more often – “How much does it earn?”
The rule to remember here is don’t sacrifice safety for yield. Instead of thinking about what often amounts to a few extra dollars a year, ask yourself – “What are the chance of this money being there for me when I need it?”
Principal preservation is another goal of investors; to have their money not only stay stable, but increase as prices rise. I typically talk about it out of GPS order because a combination of Growth and Stable investments may provide the right mix to achieve a portfolio that keeps up with inflation. These may be real assets like real estate, precious metals, currency, or real goods. Think about these investments as providing diversification benefits first over providing winning returns.
Instead of pouring over funds and worrying about what fund or investment will outperform the others, a less stressful and far more productive strategy for individuals is to figure out how much you need to have invested for each category, select investments based on how well they match category criteria and not on returns, monitor those investments, and control the factors you can (avoid investing with companies with poor stewardship, poor performance, and excessive costs). This activity of determining how much you need in each category aligns your investment selection to your individual goals.
Invest today in a changed perception, from trying to win the highest return, to following a purposeful investment selection plan which will ease your stress, align your portfolio with your personal goals, and likely increase your returns.

Sandra asks…
Need Master’s/PhD for a CFD job?
I am a Mechanical Engineering student and I was wondering whether or not to take a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) course next semester. Do companies hire engineers (with only a Bachelor’s) to do their CFD work? Or would I need a Master’s/PhD in order to be hired? CFD software is very expensive, would companies hire an engineer who has taken only one course in CFD to do their CFD work?
Thank you for your time.
Admin answers:
Most companies hire personnel that they are competent, and having some experience in a particular area helps greatly. Not having a Master’s degree or PhD would not disqualify you from performing CFD work. Conversely, having a Master’s degree or PhD does not qualify someone to do CFD work either.
I would consider taking the class if that is the direction that you feel you want to pursue. You will find out part way through if this is really your direction or not. Any experience or education in CFD would definitely give you an advantage over other candidates for a similar position. Most hiring managers that I know will more readily hire a person based on the content of their character, and the persons desire to produce, rather than on other factors.
